most expensive model -- a $250,000 DB AR1 convertible -- for inclusion
in the show as the pet vehicle for "Big Ed" Deline, the casino boss
played by James Caan. The car occasionally will get its own story
line, like an upcoming episode in which Deline lends his beloved
vehicle to an employee trying to impress a date, only for it to wind
up at a chop shop."
The DB AR1, or American Roadster 1, was designed in a collaboration between Henrik Fisker at Aston Martin and Italian coachbuilder Zagato and debuted at the 2003 Los Angeles Auto Show. Based on the standard DB7 Vantage Volante platform, the Zagato-styled DB AR1 shared its front and rear bumper covers, front grille, and prominent rear fenders with the contemporary DB7 Zagato coupe. The hand-formed aluminum bodywork on this example is finished in Tungsten Silver and features a double-bubble rear deck, power-folding mirrors, fog lights, and Zagato badging. The DB AR1 was delivered from the factory without a top.
The five-spoke 18″ wheels are mounted with 225/40 front and 275/35 rear Pirelli P Zero All Season tires. Stopping power is provided by silver-painted multi-piston calipers with black Aston Martin script over slotted rotors.
The cockpit features heated power-adjustable bucket seats trimmed in Dark Grey leather along with a matching lower dashboard, center console, rear luggage shelf, and door panels. A black dashpad and carpets are fitted, and metallic silver trim accents the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Diamond-pattern stitching can be found on the seats and rear luggage shelf, and additional equipment includes a Becker/Aston Martin AM/FM stereo with a trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer as well as automatic climate control, a fire extinguisher, and an aluminum shift knob, pedals, and HVAC control knobs.
A fresh service from Aston Martin was completed in February of 2024 consisting of oil and oil filter change. A brake fluid replacement service, and a multi-point inspection.
The two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline as well as a 200-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 3,848 miles.
A plaque on the door sill lists the car as #64 of 99 built.
The 5.9-liter DOHC V12 was rated at 435 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque when new.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
